Linda Charles

Born in the South East of England, Linda has always had an overwhelming attraction to colour, saying: “I always felt it to be something tangible both physically and spiritually.” She first developed an interest in abstract art during her years studying textiles and fashion at Scotland’s Herriot Watt University, and has enjoyed a successful career as an artist working with prestigious galleries across the country. Using collected materials, Linda structures patterns, texture and colour to emerge organically in her work. She says: “My aim is to bring the feel of the street and its overdose of colour and design indoors. My inspiration comes from things often overlooked and taken for granted. I love raw beauty, peeling paint, old weather-beaten doors and window frames on buildings, rusted metals and old tarnished mirrors and mixing the old with the new. I like to work on distressed surfaces with multiple layers to create a depth to my art.”
